The Challenge of Tapanuli Orangutan’s Conservation Continues

Tapanuli Orangutan, a newly discovered species of the great ape was found in a remote corner of Sumatera, Indonesia. Officially announced as the new species of the orangutan by November 2017, this Sumatran orangutan is considered as the rarest ape in the world with the total of 800 left only. However, a mega project of a massive hydropower dam building as the part of China’s immense Belt and Road initiative is haunted their habitat to destruction.

As this project is proposed to be built within Batang Toru forest, the home of this Tapanuli orangutan, suffice to say that the new road will be appeared to support the project. Once a new road established, many species will disappear for this habitat.  The massive environmental destruction and biggest loss will be followed after.
