The very first orangutan festival was successfully held in one of the oldest park in town, Sri Deli Park – Medan – North Sumatera. This event was proposed as the public understanding here in Sumatra is ironically poor with some unable to even determine key differences between orangutans and other primate species. In order for orangutan conservation to be successful, support and assistance from local communities is essential but impossible if they have not been educated on it. The Orangutan Festival 2018 provided key information about why local communities should care about orangutan conservation.

More of 500 children and young people came to learn and support the orangutan conservation in Sumatera. This event was a series of conservation based competition such as orangutan and forest carnival, drawing and coloring competition, blood donor for kids with cancer, donation for Lombok, Photo competition, music concert and conservation movie screening entitled Asimetris. Thanks for all of the support from all of the OIC team, our volunteers and supporters. Special thanks for Melanie Subuno, a public figure from Jakarta who came to merry the day. We are orangutan’s guardian.
