Saving the Grandpa

Saving the Grandpa
By the beginning of September, OIC HOCRU team found such a great surprise. After getting a call from a local people due to a presence of isolated orangutan inside of a local residence’s plantation, OIC HOCRU team checked the situation directly on the spot. After seeing the condition, it was decided that situation could be dangerous to the orangutan. The joint team of OIC HOCRU team, North Sumatran BBKSDA and the local people worked together to evacuate a male orangutan from Bangun Sari Desa subvillage, Pulo Tiga village, Tamiang Hulu subdistrict, Aceh Taming district – Aceh province on Saturday, 1st September 2018.
Omba was having the general health check
This orangutan was found isolated inside of local residence plantation about 25 km from Leuser forest area. With a smooth tranquilization, he was rescued safe and sound. From the general health check, it was found that this orangutan was about 60 years old! Suffice to say, this was the oldest orangutan that we ever rescued! To our relief, he (later named Omba for Opung Bangung Sari – Opung means grandpa and Bangun Sari is the name of the nearest subvillage) had a good health condition and could be released at the same day back to his home, Leuser forest. Once again, he can swing happily from a tree to another and hopefully he can spend the rest of his time breathing in a free air. Working non stop even to the weekend shows a great dedication of our team. Keep supporting our work to save more orangutan in need.
