As part of GLNP patrol team, Forest and Wildlife Protection Unit (ForWPU) of OIC made a significant arrest last month. During the regular patrol operation inside the Leuser forest area, our team busted 3 bird poachers along with 55 birds as the evidences around Wampu river area of Kapras village, Kuta Mbaru subdistrict, Langkat district of North Sumatera province on Saturday, 18th August 2018.These 3 poachers were suspected as the parts of a well managed wildlife traffickers. For sure, this is the great arrest of our team in 2018 so far.

The 50 of the birds have been released to the wild, 2 birds died and 3 birds are still being kept for investigation purposes. Patrol activity is one of the most important element to tackle the wildlife crime inside of the Leuser area. Not only the patrol activity, the law enforcement is also significant to push the conservation effort to protect the Leuser ecosystem. The integrated programme of patrol activity and law endorcement are important to reduce any illegal activities within the Leuser Area.
