The Leuser Nature Secondary School Students of OIC Shared the Fun In Orangutan Festival 2018

This year is quite special for OIC, as not only starting the formal school for the local kids who live in Bukit Mas village, a village adjacent with the Leuser ecosystem but also held the very first festival, the orangutan festival 2018. This festival was held in one of the oldest parks in Medan, Sri Deli park. This event was proposed as the public understanding here in Sumatra is ironically poor with some unable to even determine key differences between orangutans and other primate species.

The 17 students of Leuser Nature Secondary School of OIC came to celebrate the day. As they live quite in the rural area, this event made them able to enjoy the big city like Medan. Driving for 4 hours from their village to get to Medan, the kidss had a great time.  “I love the festival and I love Medan. This is the first time I came to Medan and see so meny different things. Especially the festival, I love to see the music and some used the orangutan costume and he acts funnily! like a real orangutan” said Ekel, one of the students.

This festival was intended not only to the people who live in the city. The presence of these kids were are important as they live adjacent to the orangutan’s habitat. This festival delivered important messages how important the orangutan to be conserved as the part of their heritage. Keep supporting us!
